THE DRAFTKEY FIELD GUIDE
Good words.
A little know-how.
Practical guides for DraftKey, the private AI writing assistant for Mac. Start with setup, find the shortcut you need, or work through an everyday writing task.
01 / GET STARTED
A smooth first session.
Check your Mac, install the app, and choose where writing assistance runs. AI features require Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later, at least 8 GB of memory, a license, and the separate writing model.
Download and install
Move DraftKey to Applications, activate your license, and understand the model download.
Setup and troubleshooting
Check permissions, model readiness, supported text fields, and app controls when help does not appear.
Keyboard shortcut reference
Open Writing tools, undo a correction, accept one word, and use the six slash commands.
Release notes and updates
See the recent fixes, check your app version, and find help after an update.
02 / WRITE WITH INTENT
Choose the help your draft needs.
Corrections clean up what you typed. Autocomplete suggests what could come next. Writing tools revises an existing passage when you ask. You can control them independently.
Write better emails
Work through a follow-up, a concise update, and a polite request. Keep the facts and review the tone.
Spelling and grammar
Use automatic cleanup, undo an unwanted fix, and keep names or specialist words the way you wrote them.
Rewrite a paragraph
Choose a writing action or a custom instruction, review the preview, and insert the result.
Autocomplete as you type
Read a suggested continuation and accept the words you want without taking the whole sentence.
03 / MAKE IT YOURS
Your workspace, your pace.
Explore the sound profiles, practice in the browser, and understand the difference between local writing inference and the online services used for setup and updates.
Keyboard sounds
Meet the six sound profiles and control typing sounds separately from AI assistance.
Typing test and practice
Try free typing or a timed test with WPM, accuracy, and mechanical keyboard sounds. No Mac app required.
Local AI and privacy
See what runs on the Mac and why model downloads, licensing, and updates still use the internet.
