CHOOSE HOW YOUR WRITING GETS HELP

A Grammarly alternative
for your Mac.

DraftKey is an option if you want corrections, autocomplete, and rewriting powered by a model on your Mac. Grammarly may fit better if you need its broader platform support or existing team workflow. Here are the differences that matter before switching.

Does Grammarly work offline?

Grammarly’s support documentation says it requires an internet connection to analyze writing and offer suggestions. Installing its desktop app does not turn that processing into a local model. Read Grammarly’s offline-use answer.

DraftKey runs its writing model locally after you finish setup and download the model. Your draft is not sent to a cloud AI inference service for those writing suggestions. That describes writing inference, not every connection the app makes: activation, licensing, model delivery, and updates involve online services.

For a managed work Mac, check your organization’s software rules as well as where inference runs. Local AI alone does not establish compliance with a workplace policy. The local AI guide and privacy notice explain DraftKey’s processing and service boundaries.

Decide how you want changes applied.

DraftKey’s automatic spelling and grammar fixes can change text during a pause. Review the finished sentence, and use Control + Option + Z if you want the original back. If you prefer to inspect a proposed rewrite first, tap Command + Option together and release to open Writing tools, then choose Insert only after reviewing it.

Grammarly’s documented workflow surfaces writing suggestions and paragraph rewrites for review. If reviewing marked suggestions is central to how you edit, consider that difference before switching. Neither interface removes the need to check names, dates, and intended meaning.

Try the DraftKey email walkthrough to see how to request a warmer or shorter message without losing its deadline. Those website examples are prepared demonstrations, not a head-to-head test of either model.

Choose the fit, not just the feature list.

DraftKey may suit you when…

  • Your main writing machine is a supported Apple Silicon Mac.
  • You want local writing inference and are comfortable downloading and running a model.
  • You want automatic corrections, optional inline suggestions, and a rewrite preview inside compatible text fields.
  • You also want typing sounds that work independently of writing AI.

Keep Grammarly on your shortlist when…

  • You need writing assistance across Windows, browsers, or mobile devices as well as your Mac.
  • Your supported Intel Mac does not meet DraftKey’s Apple Silicon requirement.
  • You prefer Grammarly’s suggestion-review workflow or rely on a team’s configured style guide.

A practical check before switching.

  1. Check the machine. Confirm Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. AI needs at least 8 GB of memory. The model download is approximately 1.12 GB; allow at least 2.2 GB of free space for it, plus room for the app.
  2. Check the editor. DraftKey depends on macOS Accessibility support in each text field. Secure fields are excluded, and some custom editors are unsupported. Use the setup guide to understand permissions and per-app controls.
  3. Compare one tool at a time. Turn off the other tool’s assistance in the test editor so two correction systems do not compete to change the same draft.
  4. Use a disposable example. After setup, try a short message with a name, deadline, and a typo. Check what changed, whether the facts stayed intact, and whether undo behaves as expected.
  5. Review the commitment. DraftKey requires a license. Read the installation requirements and terms and refund conditions before choosing it. The website typing room is a sound demo, not a trial of the Mac app’s AI.
