draftkey

A little practice. A little rhythm.

A typing test
that sounds like you.

Check your words per minute and accuracy with mechanical keyboard sounds. Choose 15, 30, or 60 seconds and start typing. Choose Typing test to show a passage; your first letter starts the timer.

How to take the typing test

  1. Choose Typing test and your time. Use 15 seconds for a quick round, or 30 or 60 seconds for a longer session.
  2. Find your sound. Compare Cream, K Pro Brown, Topre, Keychron Red, Cherry MX Blue, and Cherry MX Black. The sample button lets you listen before you start. Sound is optional.
  3. Type the passage. Click Start typing or the text area, then enter the displayed words. The timer begins with your first character.
  4. Review your result. When time is up, see your WPM and accuracy. Restart for a fresh passage or switch to Free typing.

Use the same duration and keyboard when comparing your own sessions. A physical keyboard is the clearest way to practice desktop typing; a phone keyboard or the on-screen keys changes the input method and makes scores less comparable.

How DraftKey calculates WPM and accuracy

WPM uses the number of correct characters currently in your draft, divided by five, divided by elapsed minutes. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number. Correctly placed spaces count as characters. The display stays at zero until at least one second has elapsed.

Worked example

100 correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ 0.5 minutes = 40 WPM

That is 100 correct characters over 30 seconds.

Accuracy is the percentage of character-entry attempts that were correct, rounded to a whole number. For example, 98 correct attempts out of 100 gives 98% accuracy. A wrong character still counts as an error if you backspace and fix it, so correcting a word can improve the current draft without erasing the earlier mistake.

The timer ends when the selected time expires, or when the full passage is completed. Pasting and dropping text are disabled in test mode. Scores describe this browser exercise; they are not a typing certification, a standardized assessment, or a benchmark of DraftKey’s AI.

Six keyboard sound profiles to explore

Cream

Soft, full-bodied keystrokes.

Topre

Soft, rounded keystrokes.

Keychron Red

A low, smooth sound.

K Pro Brown

Gentle and tactile.

Cherry MX Blue

Crisp and clicky.

Cherry MX Black

Deep and rounded.

Adjust volume first, then use the tone slider to move between a deeper thock and a brighter clack. Stereo distributes sounds across the keyboard. Sound preference is personal; no profile is proven here to make you type faster. These profile names do not imply manufacturer endorsement.

Before your next round

Does the test save what I type?

Your typing is processed in this browser. Free-typing text stays in the current page session and is not a saved document. Sound preferences and your best WPM for each duration are stored locally in your browser. Clearing browser storage removes those settings and scores. See the privacy notice for website hosting and storage details.

Can I practice without a timer?

Yes. Choose Free typing to write your own text. You can copy your draft and undo a clear until you start a new draft. Copy anything you want to keep before closing or reloading the page.

Why can’t I hear the keys?

Check the Sound on/off control, demo volume, computer output volume, and whether the browser tab is muted. Click Play sample to start audio with an explicit interaction. The test still measures typing with sound off.

How can I compare sessions fairly?

Keep the duration, keyboard, and input method consistent. Look at accuracy alongside WPM. A short round can fluctuate more than a longer one, and different test sites may calculate scores differently.

DraftKey’s Mac app combines on-device autocomplete, text rewriting, and independent keyboard sounds. The browser test above runs without the Mac app or its AI model.
